Conference Policies

HoMMUNC Jr. believes in giving students the opportunity to debate international relations and experience Model UN in a welcoming and professional environment. We seek to help students familiarize themselves with the fundamental aspects of Model UN: discussing issues, sharing ideas and working with others. We welcome students of all levels of experience to participate and learn during the duration of the conference. Ultimately, we aim to instill a sense of love for Model UN in all of our participants. We reward those who do make strides to improve the quality of discussion and the atmosphere of committee while at HoMMUNC Jr. In the interests of pursuing these ends, we have instituted the following policies for HoMMUNC Jr. XI:

Pricing

HoMMUNC Jr. XI will charge a $40 delegate fee along with an $80 fee for each delegation. Once you register, we will send your faculty advisor an invoice. Please refer to the Registration Page for more details about payment.

Financial Aid

HoMMUNC Jr. X will provide financial aid when necessary. If your delegation has issues paying any of the fees, please use the Contact Us page to request financial aid.

Committee LEGISLATION

All working papers, draft resolutions, directives, communiqués, press releases, and any other forms of committee legislation may not be written before the beginning of the first committee session of HoMMUNC Jr. Any delegates discovered with pre-written committee legislation will be disqualified from receiving awards, and their schools will be disqualified from receiving a delegation award. We would like to see delegates working together to formulate ideas while in committee.

DELEGATION AWARDS

Upon concluding debate, the HoMMUNC Jr. XI Secretariat will give awards to two delegations based on the performance of their delegates in committee. These awards are determined using a point system where the delegation with the highest point average will receive the Best Delegation award and so on with the Outstanding Delegation award.

First Place: Best Delegation
Second Place: Outstanding Delegation

LAPTOP COMPUTERS

In the interest of streamlining debate to give students the ability to present his or her ideas in committee, we will be permitting the regulated use of laptop computers at HoMMUNC Jr. XI. Chairs will have the discretion to set committee-specific policies on laptop use. While we encourage the use of laptops and other electronics outside of the committee room, the use of electronics inside the room during formal debate will be strictly prohibited in all committees.

PLAGIARISM

Every piece of committee legislation submitted at HoMMUNC Jr. XI must be the original work of the delegate sponsoring it. Any delegates found plagiarizing the work of another delegate or the work of any institution will be disqualified from receiving awards, and their schools will be disqualified from receiving a delegation award. While we do not directly prohibit delegates from using documents as inspiration for their proposals, we ask that delegates do not unjustly expropriate the intellectual property of these institutions when writing legislation.

POSITION PAPERS

Position papers are not required for HoMMUNC Jr. XI, although the dais will receive them if they are sent before the conference. Position papers will have no bearing on awards in committee, and the vast majority of students attending HoMMUNC Jr. will not be submitting position papers. Accordingly, HoMMUNC Jr. will not be providing recommended guidelines for position papers. However, delegates are free to write position papers in the interest of focusing their ideas and country policies in order to better their understanding of the topic at hand.

If you have any questions regarding the above policies or anything related to HoMMUNC Jr., please feel free to contact us.
